Manchester United is one step closer to the semis: they beat Chelsea 1-0


Stamford Bridge Stadium has been a tough pitch for Manchester United, but the history chaged last night. Ferguson's team defeated Chelsea 0-1 with a great goal scored by Wayne Rooney.

This quarterfinal duel is not decided yet, but United took one step of advantage with this result. Rooney's goal - which came after a superb move of Ryan Giggs - can be a crucial factor in the end.

Chelsea almost score the equalizer when Fernando Torres blasted his shot close to the post, but Van der Sar stopped the ball.

Alex Ferguson said that "nothing is decided yet, but this victory is really important". The ticket for the semifinals will be decided on April 12, at the Old Trafford Stadium.

Barcelona defeat Shakhtar Donets 1-5 but Guardiola remains cautious

FC Barcelona got an outstanding 5-1 win over Shakhtar Donets in Ukraine, and coach Josep Guardiola said this result is “good” but insisted that their rivals are an excellent team, and they should be careful and focused in the second game.
This match, part of the Champions League quarterfinals, almost secured a place in the semis for Messi’s team.
Early in the first half, Iniesta scored the opener and Barcelona began their path to victory. Dani alves, Gerard Piqué, Keita y Xavi completed the handful of goals.
With this result and the victory of Real Madrid over Tottenham, the world expects a Spanish derby in the semifinals.

Surprise at San Siro: Schalke beat Inter 2-5

Not even the most loyal fan of Schalke expected this win. Inter scored the opener with a superb shot by Dejan Stankovic and took an advantage again with their second goal netted by Milito. But the German squad, lead by veteran Raul Gonzalez, would achieve one of the most impressive comebacks in Champions League history.
Brazilian striker Edu was the hero of Schalke by scoring a double. The other German goals were netted by Matip, Raul, and an own goal by Ranocchia .
Even though there is one game left, Inter’s coach Leonardo knows that it will be really tough for his team to qualify for the semifinals.

Champions League 2011 Quarterfinals: Adebayor score double to help Madrid crush Tottenham Hotspurs

Jose Mourinho was aware of the importance of this game against Tottenham Hotspurs, that’s why he used his best cards since the very first minute. And his most valuable footballers didn’t disappoint him. Real Madrid beat the Spurs 4-0 and almost secured a place in the semifinals.
The first goal scored by Emmanuel Adebayor was the breaking point of the match, and it came very early in the first half. Real Madrid was an unstoppable machine of offensive football, with Ozil, Ronaldo and Adebayor leading the attack.
Peter Crouch’s red card was the second factor that helped Madrid demolish their rival. Nothing was in favor of Tottenham at the Santiago Bernabeu. In the second half, Adebayor, Di María and Cristiano Ronaldo completed the result.

Karim Benzema out of Champions League duel against Spurs

French striker Karim Benzema had become one of the most important offensive cards of Mourinho, but doctors at Santiago Bernabeu comfirmed that the footballer will miss tomorrow’s match between Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspurs.
“Benzema has no chance of playing in this game, he could not take part of the last training sessions” Mourinho stated to the press.
Some other key players are still in doubt, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Marcelo and Angel Di Maria. But Mourinho hopes that in the end they will be fit for the match.
